New World will be the first supermarket in the country to offer customers a frictionless and integrated digital experience in stores. Introducing Zoom Trolleys – a trolley with a built-in tablet enabling customers to shop more efficiently and manage budget with ease.
The trolleys will save customers time at checkout, check their spending as they shop, easily search for specific products and find great everyday value in store, and integrate with existing shopping lists.
“Our Zoom Trolleys create a touchpoint between the digital customer experience outside of the store, and the physical customer experience inside of the store,” said Chris Quin, CEO, Foodstuffs North Island. “The integration between the New World App and Zoom Trolleys will create a frictionless shopping experience for customers. There’s no more juggling your paper recipe printout or shopping list, or fumbling on your mobile phone looking for dinner inspiration while pushing your trolley in store.”
How do Zoom Trolleys work?
Step 1) Customer registers for Zoom online, which you can access via the New World App.
Step 2) Customer enters store, selects Zoom on their New World App and ‘pairs’ their phone with the Zoom Trolley.
Step 3) Customer uses fixed scanner on the Zoom Trolley to scan product as they put it into their reusable bag in trolley. For produce or bulk items, customer uses barcode-producing scales to weigh and scan.
Step 4) Customer heads to normal checkout lane when they’re ready and uses their New World App to transfer their Zoom Trolley shop to the point-of-sale system. Customer pays without needing to unload and reload their trolley!
Step 5) Customer walks to car, unloads groceries and returns the trolley. Done.
Since Zoom Trolleys were built from the wheels-up in house at Foodstuffs North Island, they address needs that are specific to New World shoppers.
“We know what kind of experience our customers are looking for and the challenges they face when they shop in store. Customers want a seamless experience, good value and inspiring solutions that make their lives easier.
When it came time to build the software and hardware for Zoom Trolleys, we didn’t need to look beyond our four walls to create it. We have built an experience that is right for our customers by the best folks in our business and in the industry. It’s a credit to the team’s ingenuity and ambition to improve the shopping experience in New Zealand.”
