Three offenders were apprehended after a serious robbery and assault at an Auckland dairy in April. Two men, aged 26 and 43, and a 35-year-old female were arrested on Saturday, April 15, following the robbery of Big Johns Dairy, on Johns Lane in Pakuranga.
The two males entered the store at about 3pm where they proceeded to assault the person behind the counter in an attempt to steal cigarettes.
Local police observed a vehicle leaving the dairy and tried to stop them. However, the robbers failed to stop for police until they ‘dumped’ the vehicle nearby. One male and female where apprehended as they ran from the vehicle and a third male offender was apprehended a short time later after being tracked by a police dog unit. The three offenders appeared in court on April 17.
The dairy shop worker was transported to Middlemore Hospital following the assault, to receive treatment for his injuries.
The incident occurred during a new police operation (Operation Dukan) in Auckland. The operation aims to engage with small business owners in the dairy and alcohol retail sector and provide them with reassurance and crime prevention advice.
