Palmerston North New World Melody’s was recognised in a huge seven out of 12 categories, and took home three Gold Distinction awards at the 2014 New Zealand Bakery of The Year competition. The Bakery Industry Association of New Zealand held the competition at The Fine Food Show in Auckland recently.
The team placed third in the prestigious Bakery of the Year category, and received an additional two gold awards and two bronze awards for their creations. Two of the team’s Gold Distinction awards, the highest possible placing in a category, were for their Ancient Grain Vienna and Sourdough loaves, which were designed specifically for Melody’s. The bakery’s two Gold awards were for their celebration cake and gingerbread house, and the two Bronze awards were given for their Gluten Free Chocolate Cake and Opera Gateaux.
New World Melody’s store manager Kelly Melody is thrilled with the result and says: “The top three awards are normally won by specialist bakeries, our team put in a lot of effort and we’re ecstatic to have placed third. We are grateful to be recognised as one of the top New Zealand bakeries and would love for our customers to come in and see some of our entries that are on display, as well as all of our other fantastic products we have, on their next visit.”
