A new mega shopping mall could be on the cards for Takapuna’s Shore City. Recent reports suggest that the building could be topped with 360 apartments in two glass towers standing 18 and 30 stories high.
The site will have a total of 9.6 ha of floor space, equivalent to about 12 rugby fields, although much of that will constitute apartments.
Tenders for Shore City close on September 15. The concept plans (see image below), envisage what a purchaser could do with one of Auckland’s smallest malls at only 1.3 ha in an area identified by Auckland Council as a metropolitan centre with big growth potential due to transport links, amenities and infrastructure.
“That particular block has for a very long time had an unlimited height restriction. It’s very encouraging. There’s a lot of latent potential in Takapuna which has been waiting for a significant landholder to unleash. It’s this sort of unleashing that a lot of other developers are watching out for too,” said Auckland Councillor, Chris Darby.
