Kaipara District Council Commissioner, John Robertson, has recently opened Countdown’s new Dargaville store. Store Manager Craig Unsworth says the new supermarket will offer Dargaville customers a new and improved shopping experience. “We’re really excited to show off our brand new store and can’t wait to see what our local customers think of the more modern design and exciting new products and range. Our team have been working hard to get the store ready for opening day and there are loads of exciting opening specials and activities this week to celebrate,” he says.
Countdown is one of the largest employers in New Zealand, with more than 18,000 team members throughout New Zealand. In preparation for the opening, in addition to the existing team of 82, Countdown worked closely with Work and Income to bring on board a further 22 people to open the new store. Countdown’s Managing Director Dave Chambers says the company is pleased to support further job creation in the local community.
“We’re a very proud employer of more than 550 people in Northland and it’s great to provide an opportunity for new team members to join our business, and start great careers in retail with us,” he says.
The new generation 3500 square metre store replaces the existing Countdown and is 50% larger than the previous store. It has been designed with Countdown’s latest design features, including wider aisles, a more expansive fresh produce department and energy efficient fittings and equipment. The new store will offer an expanded new layout for clothing and kitchenware merchandise, a full-service bakery baking fresh good daily, service deli and seafood department.
