JCDecaux New Zealand has introduced new environmentally friendly material for its billboards, as part of its commitment to protect the environment through socially responsible, sustainable products and pollution prevention.
The “Future Banner” is PVC free and looks and performs just like a regular PVC banner but with a true environmental edge. Developed by manufacturers Carr New Zealand, the Future Banner is made from a polyester base fabric with polypropylene coating. This material is lighter than the 450gsm material currently being used by the Out-of-Home industry, creating a reduction of product in to landfill and making it easier to lift and move for JCDecaux installers.
“JCDecaux is proudly an environmentally responsible company. We have been extensively trialling the use of our Future Banners to test their strength and durability and this change in printing method is expected to substantially lower JCDecaux’s carbon footprint and reduce landfill waste. We’re excited to launch these billboards in New Zealand with the same commitment to quality we have always maintained,” JCDecaux NZ Country Head, Mike Watkins, said.
The Future Banner is available on all JCDecaux 6x3m and 12x3m Large Format billboards across New Zealand, effective immediately upon client request.
JCDecaux has a proactive culture of environmental awareness, with its own Environmental Policy and Corporate Sustainability Strategy that commits the company to reducing energy consumption and other environmental impacts. The company is Carbon Neutral Certified and has an accredited Environmental Management System.
Among its other environmentally friendly initiatives, JCDecaux has fitted low emission LED lighting on all its classic Large Format locations across New Zealand and Australia, and its Street Furniture locations in Australia.
In September last year, JCDecaux became the first Out-of-Home company to join the RE100 initiative that will see it source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2022.
JCDecaux has also obtained the maximum AAA score in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) rankings of the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) ratings agency for the third consecutive year. The ranking confirms the robustness of the CSR practices and sustainable development policy that JCDecaux has employed for many years and also reflects its long-term resilience to environmental, social and governance risks.
