Iconic Kiwi retailer Four Square is celebrating its 95th Birthday this year.
Did you know that a simple doodle on a calendar back in 1924 gave New Zealanders the Four Square brand it knows and loves to this day? Heaton Barker drew a square around the number 4 of the date on his calendar – it was 4 July, 1924. He realised he finally had a name for his new buying group, stating that “they would stand Four Square to all the winds that blew.”
Ninety-five years later and more than 240 stores from the far north in Houhora to the deep south on Stewart Island,
the Four Square service with a smile remains steadfast throughout Aotearoa.
The 100% Kiwi owned and operated business model enables Four Square owners to impact their communities and local clubs, associations and organisations, in powerful ways. From the local St John health shuttle, the kindy, dogs, sports, fire brigade, and so many more, Four Square has been, and will continue to be, the ‘local’ for New Zealand communities.
Always welcome. Always local. Always Four Square.
