A luxury hotel and popular event venue has celebrated its EarthCheck Platinum status with an unveiling ceremony officiated by guest of honour, Sir John Key. The Langham in Auckland is the first hotel in Australasia to gain the prestigious EarthCheck Platinum Certification, representing 10 years of continuous certification with EarthCheck – the world’s leading Sustainability certification authority for Travel and Tourism.
The unveiling took place in the Chandelier Room at The Langham, Auckland and hosted 50 guests, including FMCG Business Head of Content Tamara Rubanowski, for a preview of the prestigious Platinum plaque. Guests were treated to a bespoke themed Afternoon Tea designed by Executive Chef Volker Marecek, which included a stunning, earth-inspired edible centrepiece.
Franz Mascarenhas, Managing Director at The Langham, Auckland lead the event by sharing stories of the 10-year journey to the EarthCheck Platinum status. He said the award proved it was possible for luxury to be sustainable. “Sustainability is good for everyone – our employees, our guests and the environment. It is also important for New Zealand tourism because it positions ourselves as a premium eco-destination.”
Sir John Key expressed his extended appreciation for The Langham, Auckland’s on-going hospitality and congratulated the hotel on its remarkable commitment to sustainability before unveiling the Platinum plaque. The Platinum Certification places The Langham, Auckland as a leader in the unique worldwide group of sustainable tourism operators that are certified to the internationally recognised EarthCheck Platinum standard.
Guests who attended the event were given a gift upon departure of ‘Langham Urban Honey’ which was harvested from the hotels 10th floor beehive.
