Countdown’s upgrade of its busy Greenlane store is now complete, and with an emphasis on energy efficiency the refreshed store expects to reduce its energy use by up to 40%, thanks to new hybrid refrigeration, dual path heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.
The focus on reducing the store’s carbon footprint has included installing the latest energy efficient fittings and LED lighting. The store has also installed two benches for customer seating made out of 21,000 recycled plastic bags and other soft plastics.
Countdown Greenlane Store Manager, Paul Maxwell, says he is proud to be part of a store that is making a difference environmentally while still providing customers with a great shopping experience. “I am also really delighted that we’re the first Countdown store to install two bench seats made from recycled soft plastics. While the 21,000 plastic bags that have been used for the seats are just a small step, I hope our customers can feel proud of the difference they’re making by recycling their soft plastics when they shop at Countdown.”
The store also features some exciting new additions including additional self-service checkouts, a new wine cellar which holds Countdown’s largest wine selection in the country, a brand new Countdown Pharmacy, as well as a complete review of the products and layout within the store.
“We’d like to thank all our shoppers for their patience during the refurbishment. Your Countdown team is looking forward to bringing an even better shopping experience to the community,” Maxwell says.
