A super strong 69% gin, which is believed to be the most potent in the Southern Hemisphere, has been awarded an international gold medal within a month after its launch.
Boutique South Australian gin distiller Prohibition Liquor Co, founded by Adam Carpenter and Wes Heddles, collected the award for its Bathtub Cut Gin at the Melbourne International Spirits Competition. Carpenter said the biggest challenge was to make the overproof gin drinkable neat.
The gin is made under contract by Brendan Carter at Applewood in the Adelaide Hills and transported to the company’s base in an inner Adelaide suburb where it is bottled and labelled by hand.
The Bathtub Cut will also feature in the New York International Spirits Competition in October.
