A new Four Square supermarket in Albert Town, just outside Wanaka, is promising greater convenience for locals and visitors. Four Square Albert Town opened in December on the corner of Albert Town-Lake Hawea Rd (SH6) and Alison Ave, about ten minutes’ drive from central Wanaka.
The supermarket is part of a new commercial hub developed on the site of the old Albert Town Tavern, as well as a restaurant and bar and other retail shops.
Four Square Albert Town will open each day at 7.30AM and includes all the favourite departments, including produce, butchery, bakery and seafood, food-to-go including hot chicken and pizzas, and Lotto. The store will also stock an extensive range of beer, wine and cider.
Co-owner Julie Sinclair says their newly hired team will also offer “the friendliest service in town”. “We’ve brought on six staff to help run the new store,” she says, “as well as several more for the busy summer season, when there’ll be more people in the area including holiday makers at the campground over the bridge and those going to the Wanaka Rodeo up the road.”
Co-owner Cam Sinclair says for Albert Town locals and visitors alike, the store means convenience. “Now they don’t have to get in their cars and drive ten minutes into Wanaka just to buy a hot meal, cold beverage, morning paper or lucky Lotto ticket,” he says. “Instead many will be able to just walk down and see us, and for those further afield there’s enough carparking for everyone to share.”
Four Square Group Manager (South Island) Steve Alexander says the new store is the 65th Four Square in the South Island. “Four Square stores are our ‘big little’ supermarkets that really come into their own in villages like Albert Town, with a generous size, two checkouts, and all the essentials in one place,” says Alexander.
