Barbecue enthusiasts from all over the country will flock to Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds on February 25, where 22 teams will battle it out at the first ever Meatstock New Zealand barbecue war.
The festival will feature bands, barbecues, beards, bourbon and beer. Competitions, demonstrations and workshops will be garnished with a backdrop of live bands, barbecue-inspired food trucks and craft beer from Liberty Brewing.
The festival has also attracted two famous pitmasters to run classes for both the competitors and public. Moerlando ‘Big Moe’ Cason, a favourite on the US BBQ Pitmasters food programme says he can’t wait for Meatstock New Zealand. “It’s a passionate foodie nation renowned for producing quality beef and lamb and I look forward to passing on my hot tips to the Kiwi barbecue community.”
Australia’s celebrity pitmaster and Good Food AU winner, Hillbilly Wes will also be heading to New Zealand for the festival. For Wes the love of grilled meat started in Lockhart, Texas, the barbecue capital of America, where he was mesmerised by the calibre of the food. After travelling back and forth with some of the best barbecue establishments in Austin, he set up his own restaurant in Sydney called Bovine and Swine Barbecue Co.
Competitors in the two-day event will compete for prizes and cash to the value of $8,000 and to be crowned the best barbequers in New Zealand. For further information go to http://www.meatstock.co.nz/
