The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is proud to be sponsoring the NZ Food Awards again this year. The Awards, which will be announced in October, provide local food and beverage producers with the opportunity to highlight the success of their products and businesses.

Peter Thomson, MPI’s Director Plants, Food and Environment says: “This year we are sponsoring two awards – the Food Safety Culture Award and Primary Sector Products Award. These awards provide a great opportunity to recognise excellence in food production and processing and raise the profile of high performing businesses and products. We are looking for people to enter now! More information on each MPI sponsored award can be found below.”

Food Safety Culture Award

Thomson explains: “At MPI, our focus is on ensuring all consumers get safe and suitable food. Everyone has a role to play when it comes to food safety and businesses are key in helping us to maintain a strong food safety system. This is why this year we are sponsoring the Food Safety Culture Award.”

This award is open to all food and beverage companies that can demonstrate they have a strong food safety culture throughout all aspects of their operations, and up and down their supply chains.

If you are doing some great work in developing or maintaining a strong food safety culture in your business then this is a great opportunity for you to get some recognition for the work you do to ensure your customers are safe.

Thomson says: “This year we are also sponsoring the Primary Sector Products Award again.

This award is open to all food and beverage growers, processors or researchers who add value to products through the introduction of new varieties, cultivars or breeds, for example new varieties of fruits, vegetables, or different cuts of meat.

The category is also open to all food and beverage manufacturers who add value to products through new or alternative harvesting, processing or packaging to extract or create new or innovative products.

Entries for fresh or processed produce or products that are marketed in New Zealand or overseas and derived from any of the various primary sectors (including meat, dairy, seafood, apiary or horticulture) are welcomed. We encourage anyone who has delivered an interesting project or initiative in this space to enter this award.”

Entries are open until Friday 15 July 2016. For more information on how to enter, visit the NZ Food Awards website – http://www.foodawards.co.nz/enter-now/categories-and-criteria/
