Fonterra is expected to lay off hundreds of staff, according to media reports. Head office and support staff jobs are most likely to be cut in a major reshape of the business, perhaps as a result of the global decline in dairy prices.
Fonterra Chief Executive Theo Spierings won’t confirm the exact number of jobs going until a final review is completed and approved by the board. He says the cooperative wants to redirect more staff into sales roles and into markets to help drive up returns.
